When I hosted a Small Town Experience day in Lavonia, 211 Main catered lunch for our group. If you are planning a full day in town, start with my Lavonia, GA small town guide.

What to Expect at 211 Main Street
211 Main Street on West Main in downtown Lavonia
211 Main sits on West Main Street in the middle of downtown Lavonia, under black awnings with benches and flower boxes out front. Inside, it is part restaurant and part bakery. There is a glass case full of cakes, pies and cupcakes, a counter of bagged cookies and treats, shelves of fresh bread, and coolers packed with soups and casseroles you can take home.
The bakery counter inside 211 Main
The family-run restaurant has been in downtown Lavonia since 2006, inside two connected buildings that are about a century old.
The Dessert Tray at 211 Main Street
This is what people talk about. Instead of a dessert menu, they bring a tray of every slice to your table so you can pick what you want.
The dessert tray they bring to your table
The restaurant says it makes at least 8 kinds of pie, 2 kinds of cheesecake and 4 kinds of cake every day. My order is always the Key Lime Pie, and the Reese's pie is a 1000 out of 10. The owners have said the pecan caramel pie outsells every other pie, and the strawberry cake comes in second.
Picking a slice from the dessert tray
The bakery case shows what is on hand that day. On my visit the labels included strawberry, key lime, red velvet, wedding cake, pecan caramel, peanut butter and death by chocolate.
Bagged cookies by the register
Sugar-free and gluten-free options are available too, and the coolers carry gluten-free cupcakes and gluten-free sweet bread.
Lunch at 211 Main Street in Lavonia, GA
Lunch is home-cooked Southern comfort food. I usually order whatever the Wednesday special is. Sometimes that is wings with mac and cheese, and sometimes it is meatloaf.
The regular menu has sandwiches, salads and plates like chicken pot pie and poppy seed chicken, and Friday night dinner adds entrees like shrimp and grits and ribeye. The menu changes, so check the specials when you get there.
Plan on about $20 a person once you add a drink and dessert.
Take Something Home
Fresh breads and seasonal treats
The bread shelves along the wall had sourdough, whole wheat and 10 grain loaves, and the sign said all breads were $7.99 when I visited. There are also bagged cookies and seasonal treats.
Frozen soups and casseroles to take home
The coolers are full of take-home meals. On my visit, frozen soups were $13 and frozen casseroles were $19.95, with options like mac and cheese, poppy seed chicken and white chicken chili. Prices can change, so check the tags.
If you want a whole pie, cake or a big order, the restaurant asks you to email it at least 2 days before your pickup date. They also cater, and they make wedding cakes, sheet cakes and cupcakes for events.
The Small Town Experience: Lunch for the Group
When I hosted the Small Town Experience in Lavonia, in partnership with the Lavonia Downtown Development Authority, 211 Main catered lunch for our group. We learned about the town, ate lunch from 211 Main and took a pottery wheel class at The Works, where we made Georgia plaques.
A Little History
211 Main Street is owned and run by Bob and Trish Toews and has served downtown Lavonia since 2006. The restaurant fills two side-by-side buildings that are around 100 years old, and a renovation of the main dining room uncovered the original brick walls.
It sits in the Lavonia Commercial Historic District, the block of brick storefronts that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Lavonia itself grew up around the railroad and was incorporated in 1880.

When to Visit
Weekdays only for lunch. 211 Main is open Monday through Friday and closed on weekends. If you are only in town on a Saturday, save it for your next trip.
Go earlier in the lunch window. It gets busier as lunch goes on.
Thursday or Friday is the sweet spot. Friday adds the only dinner service of the week.
Holidays and seasonal pies. Seasonal pies like peach and pumpkin show up at different times of year, and holiday hours can change.
Mistakes to Avoid
Showing up on a Saturday. It is closed Saturday and Sunday.
Skipping dessert. The tray is the reason people drive here.
Calling for a reservation. They do not take them, so just come early.
Forgetting a cooler. If you are driving home after a lake day, bring a cooler for frozen casseroles and soups.
Ordering a whole pie the same day. For whole pies, cakes or big orders, email at least 2 days ahead.
