Texvonia Meat Market is a butcher shop and small market at 830 Grogan St in downtown Lavonia, GA, open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., selling premium beef, pork and chicken, fresh fish, deli meats and fresh produce.
I have been to Texvonia about three times. It is a take-home butcher shop, not a restaurant, and I have bought the dry-aged NY strip and some of their smoked sausages.

What I Get
I have bought the dry-aged NY strip and some of their smoked sausages. My steak was about $20 to $25, and I thought it was worth it for a really good dry-aged steak.

The Small Town Experience: Our Group Stop
When I hosted the Small Town Experience in Lavonia, in partnership with the Lavonia Downtown Development Authority, Texvonia was one of our stops, and the group got to shop the coolers and the butcher counter. Pair it with 211 Main Street for lunch and The Works for a pottery class, and you have the same day we planned.

A Little History
Texvonia opened in downtown Lavonia on June 28, 2025, under the name TX-GA Meat Market. It is run by co-owner Terry Mitchum and business partner Alex Vickery, who have about 50 years of retail and grocery experience between them. They opened it because they felt Lavonia needed a hometown butcher shop again. Longtime residents remember a downtown butcher years ago that closed and was never replaced.
The shop sits at the corner of Grogan Street and GA 17, across from the Lavonia Police Department. The building was a market a long time ago, and they have revived it and brought it back to its former glory, with the original brick, tall arched windows and wood floors.

Mistakes to Avoid
Forgetting a cooler. If you are driving home or heading to the lake, bring a cooler with ice for your meat.
Showing up right at closing. They close at 6 p.m., so leave time to shop.
Skipping the extras. Grab buns, sauces and produce while you are there so you only make one stop.
