The Cascades Inn in Tiger, GA: A Waterfall Hideaway Near Clayton (2026 Review)

My stay at The Cascades Inn was hosted by the inn. All opinions are my own. Some links in this post are affiliate links, including Hotels.com. If you book through one, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

You pull off US 441 just south of Clayton, walk a few steps onto the property, and the highway disappears. All you can hear is water. The Cascades Inn is a small, family-owned inn in Tiger, Georgia, built around cascading waterfalls on a creek, and it's as chill and serene as it gets.

I stayed one night on my own in Suite 4 this spring and spent most of it doing exactly what this place is made for: sitting outside, listening to the creek and slowing down. Here's what it's like, the one thing most guests miss, and where to eat dinner in Clayton.

Suite 4: Where I Stayed

Suite 4 is one of the four suites with a waterfall view. It sleeps two, with one bed and one bathroom. My room was right across from the stairs that lead down to the creek, so the water was only a few steps away the whole time.

Inside, the room has a bed, a couch, a table, a smart TV, a coffee maker, a refrigerator and a microwave. The bathroom surprised me. It's really nice, with a tiled shower, great water pressure and plenty of hot water.

Don't Miss the Waterfall Stairs

This is the one thing I want you to remember. Near the office at the entrance of the property, there's a set of stairs that takes you down to the waterfall. A lot of people miss it. Make sure you walk down those stairs. Even from the first landing, the view is unreal for a place this size.

The view from the stairs near the office. Don't skip it.

Fair warning: these stairs are steep and go almost straight down, and my legs were burning by the time I climbed back up. A sign at the top says not to take them after dark or in bad weather, and I'd listen to it. Wear shoes with grip and take your time.

From the rooms side, there's a second view of the falls and a short path that goes through a gate and down to the river. I walked it and hung out at the creek for a while. It was too cold to get in when I was there, but in the summer you could sit in the river and let the water run by. Everything on the property is at your own risk, so keep a close eye on kids near the water.

The Creek at Night

Nighttime here is something special. At night they turn on blue lights around the creek, and sitting outside with the water flowing makes the space feel magical. You're right off the main highway into Clayton, but out here you can't hear anything but the water.

At night they had the fire pits going, and you can sit out in the rocking chairs and just relax. There's cornhole, grills and smokers too, and they bring out coffee and hot chocolate for guests. With only nine rooms on the property, it never feels crowded.

The Family Behind the Inn

The Cascades Inn has been around for more than 25 years. Shawn and her husband bought it about three years ago and have been renovating and improving it ever since. Shawn hosted me, and she was the sweetest lady. She really takes care of you, and she deserves to have this place booked every single day of the year.

If I had to rate my stay, it's a 10 out of 10. It's one of the most unique places I've stayed in North Georgia.

Dinner in Clayton: The Rooftop at Friends

For dinner, I drove into downtown Clayton and ate on the rooftop bar at Friends Clayton Grill, 88 North Main Street. I got the BOGO burgers. They always have specials going, and at night the rooftop is where you hang out with the locals. I'd highly recommend it.

The rooftop looks out over downtown and the mountains. Seating up top depends on the weather, so call ahead at 706-782-0300 if you have your heart set on it.

Things to Do Nearby

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Booking a room without a view when you want one. Ask for Suite 3, 4, 7 or 8.

  • Showing up after 9 p.m. without calling. Let them know ahead of time.

  • Bringing your dog to Suite 6 or 7. Those two units don't allow pets.
